Recriminations (fiction): a Soap Opera Sunday Production

You need to start telling more lies in that blog of yours. --M.

Handmade birds-eye maple bench for his concert: $1375
Her birthday dinner at Casey’s Tavern the week before when he claimed he was broke: $32.95

Notes in wallet:
Julia, waitress at The Pines, 729-6683
Sibylla, vocalist, blues, 662-9384
Lena, vocalist, standard, 952-3392
Sara, grad student, wants lessons, 223-3892

The peacock blue he painted her worktable one afternoon, even though she had talked about doing it in celadon green, because he claimed she needed "more drama and less understatement in her life."

132 nights she went to bed alone last year because he had late rehearsals.
45 days on the road, touring. Without her.
22 days since he had told her he loved her. Or kissed her like he meant it.

"What went wrong?" he whined.
"Figure it out yourself," she replied. And walked out the door.

Your shorthand version of events conveys so much more than my long-winded stories ever could. Brilliant!!

Hey, everyone, thanks so much.

This is fiction, though. Definitely. Absolutely. Well, mostly. Pretty much.

Teri, thanks for the hugs. And I'll pass along the smack on the ass to the heroine of this piece who deserves it for taking so long to twig to the fact that this guy was a jerk.

Gotta say, though, that in the grand scheme of things, I'm not sure she's such an innocent victim.

It's just that when I tried to extend the idea, it dragged. Fiction and I are kind of like a mismatched couple with occasional great chemistry but total incompatibility who keep trying to get together anyway. Sometimes it's fun, but it never works in the long term.
